British Embassy Tokyo appoints December 10 as MUSUBI Youth Exchange Ambassadors

The British Embassy Tokyo announced today that British pop group December 10 were appointed as MUSUBI Youth Exchange Ambassadors at a ceremony held on 19 August, supporting a shared ambition to inspire young people in Japan and the UK to connect through music, culture and international exchange.

MUSUBI – meaning “connection” in Japanese – is a UK-Japan public-private partnership designed to foster meaningful people-to-people connections and opportunities for the next generation of UK-Japan leaders.

As MUSUBI Youth Exchange Ambassadors, December 10 will help inspire greater engagement between young people in Japan and the UK and promote the next generation of UK-Japan friendship.

December 10 are a seven-member British pop group formed through the international music project led by music producer Simon Cowell. The group are expanding their international profile, including in Japan, and performed at SUMMER SONIC 2026 during their visit to Tokyo.

In her opening remarks Chargé d’Affaires Margaret Tongue said:

“The relationship between the UK and Japan is built not only between governments and businesses, but between people. Music has an extraordinary ability to cross borders and bring young people together. We are delighted to welcome December 10 as MUSUBI Youth Exchange Ambassadors and look forward to seeing how they inspire a new generation to discover each other’s countries and cultures.”

December 10 said they were honoured to receive the appointment on only their second visit to Japan. Reflecting on the warm welcome they received, the group said they hoped the role would mark the beginning of many more opportunities to visit Japan and build connections across cultures.

Through their role as MUSUBI Youth Exchange Ambassadors, December 10 will encourage curiosity, friendship and exchange between young people in the UK and Japan.
