A Red Phone Box from the UK Pavilion at Expo 2025 Arrives at Kansai International Airport
27 March 2026

The UK Government, together with MUSUBI, is pleased to announce that the iconic Red Phone Box displayed at the UK Pavilion during the Osaka–Kansai Expo 2025 has now been installed at Kansai International Airport (KIX) as part of the Expo’s legacy initiatives.
The Red Phone Box was featured at the Expo adorned with ivy and other greenery, becoming a popular photo spot and a vibrant expression of British heritage and creativity.
The Osaka–Kansai Expo provided a valuable platform to strengthen connections between the United Kingdom and Japan, deepening long‑standing bilateral ties and fostering new relationships with the Osaka and Kansai regions. In this spirit of continued partnership, the UK Government donated the Red Phone Box to KIX as a symbol of ongoing friendship and collaboration.

To mark the installation, the British Consulate‑General in Osaka joined MUSUBI and Kansai Airports for a small ceremony. Speaking at the event, Michael Blyth, British Consul‑General, remarked:
“This phone box and this airport share a common purpose: connecting people from across the world. We hope that visitors who encounter this iconic British symbol at KIX will be reminded not only of the Expo, but also of the UK.”
Mr. Yoshiyuki Yamaya, Representative Director and CEO of Kansai Airports, added:
“This telephone box has long been a beloved British icon. Its presence resonates with Kansai International Airport, a place built in harmony with its surrounding environment despite its location on an artificial island. We will cherish this connection and continue to uphold the ideals of the Expo.”
The UK Government and MUSUBI hope the installation will become a new landmark photo spot at KIX and a lasting reminder of the UK’s participation in the Expo. MUSUBI remains committed to deepening cultural exchange, nurturing international partnerships, and building on the collaborative spirit celebrated during Expo 2025.
