Liverpool FC International Academy Japan Announces Partnership with Rugby School Japan

Liverpool FC International Academy Japan (LFC IA Japan) is pleased to announce that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Rugby School Japan, with the aim of developing a long-term football and educational pathway for young people in Japan.

This partnership marks a new step for LFC IA Japan, which has been supporting youth development through football based on Liverpool FC’s philosophy of “The Liverpool Way.”

By combining Liverpool FC’s world-class training methodology with Rugby School Japan’s high-quality educational environment, robust safeguarding systems, and excellent sports facilities, the partnership aims to establish a leading-edge development model in Japan.

The initiative will begin with foundational work and pilot programmes, followed by a phased expansion that strengthens both the educational and sporting elements, ensuring sustainable programme delivery over time.

Key initiatives planned include:

  • Introduction of the LFC IA Japan methodology into Rugby School Japan’s football programme
  • Delivery of high-performance football academy programmes
  • Elite player development and team performance programmes
  • Holiday camps and special training programmes

Looking ahead, the partnership also aims to establish a continuous coaching framework led by LFC IA Japan coaches, while expanding access to development opportunities for young players across Japan.

Masakazu Shimizu

CEO, Liverpool FC International Academy Japan

“We are honoured to collaborate with Rugby School Japan, an institution with a long history and tradition in the UK. Through this initiative, we aim to provide the same development methods and curriculum used at the Liverpool FC Academy, offering an environment where young people can learn not only football skills but also the values embodied in ‘The Liverpool Way.’

By bringing together Rugby School Japan’s educational philosophy and Liverpool FC’s approach to player development, we hope to create new opportunities for growth and learning for every child.”

Tony Darby

Principal, Rugby School Japan

“This partnership represents a significant and meaningful step forward for Rugby School Japan. By integrating our educational philosophy with Liverpool FC’s world-leading football methodology, we will create valuable opportunities for students to grow not only as athletes, but as well-rounded individuals with confidence, resilience, and balance.

We are also proud that these opportunities will extend beyond the school through our community programmes. This reflects our commitment to contributing positively to the Kashiwanoha area and its wider community.”
