SSE Pacifico Offshore Wind Scholarship Programme supported by MUSUBI

With a focus on fostering future talent in the dynamic offshore wind sector, SSE Pacifico, in collaboration with MUSUBI, will launch a scholarship programme to support young students from Japan. This initiative will offer short-term study opportunities in the UK, with the goal of upskilling and empowering the next generation of young leaders.

Application Guidelines for SSE Pacifico Offshore Wind Scholarship Programme 

This program aims to empower the next generation of leaders to thrive in the renewable energy industry, including offshore wind, by providing them with the necessary support and development opportunities.

Scholarship Programme Overview

Schedule (Planned) Saturday, August 8, 2026 – Sunday, August 23, 2026

Training and Site Visit Locations (Planned) 

Training: 2 weeks (30 hours in total)  

  • University of Edinburgh: STEM lectures on renewable energy, guided tours of the campus and local area, accommodation and meals provided at the university student dormitory 

Company visit and power plant tour 

  • SSE Renewables Office: Corporate briefing and introduction to renewable energy operations. 
  • Pitlochry Dam and Hydroelectric Power Station: Tour of the hydroelectric facilities and the dedicated ‘salmon ladder’ fish pass, onsite visitor centre 
  • Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm: Tour of the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) base for Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm
Eligibility

Applicants must be students who, at the time of application, are enrolled in either the 2nd to 5th year of a KOSEN (National Institute of Technology) or 2nd to 3rd year of a senior high school in Japan, and must meet all of the following criteria:

  • National Institute of Technology (KOSEN): Students majoring in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). 
  • Japanese High School: Students interested in STEM or renewable energy. 
  • Strong motivation for learning and interacting in English. 
  • Availability to attend the pre-departure orientation (around July 2026) and the post-program reporting session organised by SSE Pacifico (Sept–Oct 2026) in Tokyo
Scholarship Coverage

Covered by the Programme (The scholarship is a grant-type award and does not require repayment):

  • Round-trip airfare, tuition fees, accommodation, meals, local transportation, and field trip expenses etc.

At the Participant’s Expense (Not included in the scholarship)

  • Domestic transportation (within Japan), passport application fees, mandatory travel insurance, and personal spending money etc.

Selection Process

Final candidates will be selected based on a comprehensive evaluation by SSE Pacifico, following a document screening and an online interview.
