UK-Japan Memorandum of Cooperation on people-to-people exchanges is signed

Former UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly with Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa

Former British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly and former Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa signed a Memorandum of Cooperation at the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo in November 2023.

This Memorandum formalises both countries’ commitment to strengthening cultural, educational, and scientific ties which was a key commitment in the Hiroshima Accord.

It supports increased academic and youth mobility, promotes collaboration in science, technology, and innovation, and raises the profile of UK initiatives such as the Chevening Scholarship and British Council language programmes.
