The Nuclear Damage Compensation and Decommissioning Facilitation Corporation (NDF) is a government-authorised institution established in 2011 in response to the accident at the Tokyo Electric Power Company’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, with the aim of ensuring the prompt and appropriate implementation of compensation for nuclear damage.
Through financial support and other measures for nuclear operators, NDF contributes to the smooth provision of compensation to affected individuals and the stable supply of electricity. It also supports the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station by providing technical advice, promoting research and development, and managing relevant funds to ensure the steady implementation of decommissioning.
In collaboration with the Japanese government, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), and domestic and international organisations, NDF plays a central role in addressing nuclear damage and the long-term challenges of decommissioning, while also contributing to the sharing of international knowledge and cooperation, as well as to the development of the next generation of professionals who will lead decommissioning and regional reconstruction efforts.
