Launched in 2024, the FT Nikkei UK Ekiden is a long-distance relay race inspired by Japan’s rich tradition of ekiden—a team-based running format that emphasizes unity, endurance, and cultural heritage. Held annually along the scenic Thames Path between Windsor and Reading, the event brings together university athletes and corporate teams from both the UK and Japan.
Supported by Nikkei Inc. and the Financial Times, the UK Ekiden celebrates the 100th anniversary of Japan’s iconic Hakone Ekiden and aims to deepen UK–Japan ties through sport, teamwork, and cultural exchange.
